Serum levels of pregnancy specific protein SP-1 in suspected ectopic pregnancy

Summary

Serum pregnancy specific protein (SP-1) levels were measured preoperatively in 26 women with suspected ectopic pregnancy. We used an enzyme immunoassay with a sensitivity of 2 ng/ml. SP-1 was detected in all 23 patients with a tubal pregnancy, but not in three nonpregnant women with ovarian cysts.

Tests for urinary HCG with a sensitivity of 1,000 IU/l were negative in seven of 19 patients with an ectopic pregnancy.
