Il a été montré, par enregistrement unitaire, que les afférences à partir du cortex moteur sur les cellules rubrospinales proviennent seulement de l'aire 4. Ces projections sont organisées de manière topique, bien que certaines cellules soient activées par des zones corticales étendues.
