Des extraits, par l'éther, de cellules BHK 21, L929 et de fibroblastes d'embryon de poulet, infectés par le virus EMC contiennent des métabolites spécifiques qui peuvent être décelés par chromatographie en vapeur sous forme de pics ayant des temps de retention de 6,8 et 7,9 min.
