Summary

Endo-1,4-/B-glucanase from a thermophilic fungusMyceliophthora thermophila has been isolated and purified to homogeneity. The molecular weight of the enzyme was 52,000 with a pI of 4.7, pH-optimum 5.0–6.0, and specific activity 61 IU/mg (40°, pH 5.0); this activity is 2.4 times higher than that of the enzyme fromTrichoderma reesei. The new endoglucanase is very thermostable; its half-life at 65°C is 170 hours, which is 300 times higher than that of the enzyme fromT. reesei.
