1.
The alkaline decomposition of either 2-acetamido-2-desoxy-D-glucose or 2-acetamido-2-desoxy-D-mannose yields 2-acetamido-3,6-anhydro-2-desoxy-D-mannose and 2-acetamido-3,6-anhydro-2-desoxy-D-glucose, while the decomposition of 2-acetamido-2-desoxy-D-galactose yields 2-acetamido-3,6-anhydro-2-desoxy-D-gulose and 2-acetamido-3,6-anhydro-2-desoxy-D-idose.
