Abstract
TINA-C and the RACE CASSIOPEIA Project have defined architectures for supporting designers of telecommunication services in a broadband environment. The scope, approaches, and models defined by both projects are compared. Similarities provide a common interpretation of how to build services in the future. Differences suggest items for further study or refinement. At a time of increasing importance of the application of distributed systems technology in telecommunications, this paper addresses issues of service design that may be important for researchers, designers, and managers of information and telecommunication services.
