Abstract

Recently we sent questionnaires about fractures of neck of the femur to a medical institution with 1093 patients' beds with the exception of pediatrics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and dermatology in Nagasaki Prefecture and examined cases of fractures of neck of the femur aged not less than 20 years in 1989 and 1990. The incidence of fractures of neck of the femur in Nagasaki Prefecture was represented by 1004 cases (203 males, 801 females) and 1009 cases (195 males, 814 females) in 1989 and 1990, respectively.

The incidence per 100,000 inhabitants was higher than that for any one of Niigata, Tottori and Okinawa Prefectures, and especially the incidence for women over 80 years old is getting near to that for the European.
