Summary

Influence of temperature on the activity ofAphænogaster senilis workers is experimentally studied.

Only the inner temperature of the nest is important. Temperature of external environment, acts essentially on the speed, and very little on the number of foraging ants (except for sub-lethal temperatures).

These results are valid for daily as well as for annual variations of temperature.
