Abstract
A formula for the mean value of impact parameter of elastic collisions has been derived; it allows one to estimate its lower bound for a given collision immediately from experimental data of differential cross section. It has been shown, too, that the actual impact parameter distribution depends strongly on the t-dependence of the phase. If this t-dependence is suitably chosen, a pronounced peripheral behaviour can be obtained.
