Abstract
The structure of the reduced photocycloaddition product between (±)-piperitone and methylcyclobutene, (3b), an important synthetic intermediate, was determined by direct methods from Ni-filtered CuKα diffractometer data. The crystals of the photoadduct, (3b), are tetragonal, space groupI41/a, witha = 22.909(4),c = 10.957(3) Å, andd calcd = 1.027 g cm−3 forZ = 16 (C15H26O,M = 222.37). The structure was refined toR = 0.079. Bond distances and angles are normal.
