Summary

  1. 1.

In the reaction of organolithium compounds with acetylene and other 1-alkynes in hexane, benzene, and ether, crystalline 1-alkynyllithiums are formed.

  2. 2.

Ethynyllithium is stable for storage, probably as a result of the formation of stable complexes between its molecules.

  3. 3.

Ethynyllithium is able to form crystalline ternary complexes with lithium bromide and ether.
