Conclusions

  1. 1.

We describe methods for the synthesis, some physical properties, and a study of the thermal oxidative stabilities in oxygen of a series of ketophenylenes and ketophenylene ethers.

  2. 2.

Among the diketones the most thermally stable is 1,1'-bis(4″-phenoxybenzophenonyl) ether, which we attribute to the strong intramolecular interaction of the regularly alternating electron-donating and electron-accepting groups along its molecular chain.
