Phase modulation in an optical fiber by transverse pressure

Abstract

Polarized singlemode laser light is phase modulated in a polarization preserving monomode fiber. Phase shifts due to transverse pressure applied statically or modulated with a piezo-stack in the frequency range of 0 to 25 kHz have been measured.
