Conclusions
-
1.
The vibrational spectra of bicyclo[2,1,0)pentane (BCP) were in good agreement with a structure with symmetry Cs, proposed earlier. The effective configuration of the four-membered ring in BCP is flat.
-
2.
The frequencies of the valence vibrations of the bridge CH bonds are lower than might have been expected on the basis of the nature of the hybridization of the bridge carbon atoms. The frequencies of the valence vibrations of the methylene group of the three-membered ring also were lower than usual.
