Conclusions

The corresponding higher esters were obtained in yields of 65–84% by transesterification by alcoholysis of the diethyl ester of carbonic acid with higher alcohols in the presence of alkaline catalysts.

The best catalysts are KOH and NaOH in amounts of 3–5 mole%. Acid catalysts are relatively ineffective.
