Abstract

Building information modeling (BIM) is a tool which goes beyond two-dimensional representations of building design and uses digital technology to create a virtual simulation of the building’s design, construction, and maintenance. BIM is also useful when it comes to disaster risk and response management, an unexplored field in 4D construction industry. However, some stakeholders of construction projects have been hesitant to implement BIM, taking into account the doubt over accuracy of disaster risk management, which is relatively new in market and vulnerability of BIM due to lack of stringent contractual obligations. Some additional risks like accountability, interoperability of software, and data misuse add to the apprehensive nature of stakeholders which have been identified in this paper. Furthermore, a qualitative and quantitative risk analysis has been performed on the identified risks of overall project objectives in which BIM has been implemented and a risk mitigation study has been carried out to bring down the overall risk of the project.
