Abstract

Myocardial rupture following acute myocardial infarction is an important and lethal mechanical complication with an overall incidence of 2.3%. The ruptures may occur in the left ventricular free wall, papillary muscles, and/or interventricular septum. This is a report of left ventricular free wall rupture in an elderly woman during her first episode of infarction with rapid development of cardiac decompensation.
