Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to propose a new approach to sustainability using a ruralurban school partnerships model of education provision. Due to factors outlined in the paper, many rural schools have resources- built, human and curriculum- which are often under-utilized and which are consequently driving them ever nearer to closure, fundamentally because the cost per unit of service as determined by metrocentric modelling, is considered to be uneconomic. In contrast to this, many urban schools have to deal with capacity enrolments and are demanding extra resources to meet their obligations.
