Abstract
This chapter is based on a SANPAD research study project (Roux, TerAvest, Simmondsl, 2010), embracing the contributions of five Higher Education Institutions – one university in the Netherlands and four universities in South Africa. We use narrative inquiry to deepen the understanding of human rights, and its meaning for Grade 7 girls, in relation to their cultural and religious practices within the context of their lived experiences. The empirical study is being undertaken in two schools in the Eastern Cape, one rural and one urban school, respectively.
