Abstract
This paper presents HBL – hackathon based learning as a new approach in education of software engineers. Hackathon as a term is well known in field of informatics and mainly it is connected with some challenge or competition that is organized by one or more companies. These events last for several hours, from 12 to 36 and they are a good way to gain new skills and test your teamwork skills and complete tasks within a specified time frame. In the education of software engineers, connection with industry, modern study programs and new teaching approaches are very important to gaining practical knowledge that has use in real life. Students at Subotica Tech – College of Applied Sciences successfully participated in several hackathons. That was one of reasons to involve HBL in several study subjects. This hackathons and the way of implementation HBL in education are described in paper.
