Abstract
We present an application of laser guide star for the alignment of segmented mirror telescopes. A combination of curvature and Shack—Hartmann wavefront sensors permits to detect the local piston and tilt errors of the elements of the primary mirror. We also achieve, with these sensors, the distortion of the wavefront due to atmospheric turbulence. We work in numerical simulations of the technique, based on true vertical profiles of C 2 n , measured at the Teide Observatory and assuming several schemes of adaptive optics.
