Abstract
Input/output monitoring is a term which covers a wide range of different engineering techniques. It is also a term applicable to a variety of different condition monitoring (CM) methods and areas. As a consequence, it is important to explain initially what input/output monitoring is in a general sense, and subsequently in the context of the techniques to be explained in later sections of this chapter. Thus, input/output monitoring may be defined in general as:
The dynamic measurement, recording and analysis of the input and features of a System Under Test (SUT), with the objective of fault detection, identification, and ultimately correction.
