Abstract

The effect of chemical substances such as herbicides and insecticides on soil organisms is but little investigated. Martin et al. 1959; Klostermeyer, 1959; Van der Lan, Aspöck, 1962; Bauer, 1964; Edwards, 1965; Witkamp, Crossley, 1969; Ilin, 1969; Kurcheva, 1971 show that the majority of widely used herbicides and insecticides have a more or less negative effect on useful invertebrate organisms of the soil. Under the influence of these groups of chemical substances the amount of biological agents in the soil represses, very often, all processes of their life activity which have a tendency to slow down.
