Magnetic Properties of Nd123 Irradiated by 5.8 GeV Pb-ions

Abstract

Magnetic properties of NdBa2Cu3O7-δ single crystal before and after 5.8 GeV Pb-ion irradiation (BΦ = 1T) were investigated. At low temperatures, T < 40 K, a drastic enhancement of hysteresis width was observed over the entire field range we studied ( < 7T). On the other hand, at high temperatures, T > 40 K, the enhancement of the hysteresis width was limited to a low field range, B a < B Φ. We also observed a new sharp double peak structure around 0.2 T, which is independent of temperature. We performed the magnetization relaxation experiment to estimate the field and temperature variation of the apparent pinning potential, U*0 The results show that at high temperatures U*0 is increased by the irradiation particularly at low field range. We also observed an increase in U*0 at the peak field.
