Zusammenfassung

Es gibt viele Patientengruppen, welche aus subjektiven und objektiven Gründen eine Therapie mit Antidepressiva ablehnen. Auch heute gibt es keine wirksame Pharmakotherapie der Depression ohne Nebenwirkungen, die subjektiv sehr unterschiedlich wahrgenommen werden (Tollefson 1991). Dies ist vor allem dann der Fall, wenn eine relativ milde depressive Symptomatik vorliegt oder diese in ihrer Ausprägung rasch wechselt; so wie das bei einigen Patienten mit Herbst- oder Winterdepressionen der Fall ist. Für solche Patienten wären neue, wenig invasive Therapienmethoden mit nachgewiesener antidepressiver Wirkung sehr interessant. Eine solche Methode, die sich im Moment noch in einem frühen Forschungsstadium befindet, ist die repetitive Transkranielle Magnetstimulation (rTMS), die im Folgenden vorgestellt werden soll (Schlaepfer et al. 2003).
