Abstract
Chapter 7 of the book Nonlinear Systems and Controls deals with observers for nonlinear systems, since almost all the controls described require the complete state vector of the controlled systems. Here, in addition to more theoretical concepts such as the normal form observer, the most important practical nonlinear observer concepts are discussed, such as the extended Kalman filter and the high-gain observer. This is preceded by an explanation of the observability of nonlinear systems. As in all other chapters, real-world applications and exercises illustrate the theory.
