This volume mainly describes the protocols for fabrication of liposomal drug delivery system, and consists of three parts, namely, the advances in liposome-based drug delivery system, the general protocols for fabrication of drug-loading liposomes, and the protocols for preparation of functionalized liposome-based drug delivery system. It unearths the formulation of drug-loading liposomes, describes the detailed operation of liposomal formulation, and demonstrates their potential applications. This handbook is targeted at scientists, research students, and young investigators in pharmaceutical enterprises.

About the editors

Prof. Dr. Wan-Liang Lu is Professor, Deputy Chair of Department of Pharmaceutics, and Vice Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University. He received his Ph.D. degree from China Pharmaceutical University. He was a Research Scientist at National University of Singapore (NUS)/National University Hospital (NUH), Johns Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre (2001-2003), and Toyama Medical & Pharmaceutical University (2004-2005). He is Associate Director of Pharmaceutics Specialty Committee at Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, the member of editorial board for Journal of Peking University (Health Sciences), Chinese Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chinese Pharmaceutical Journal and the referee for international peer-reviewed journals related to cancer research and pharmaceutical sciences. His research on drug delivery, cancer multi-drug resistance, pharmacokinetics, and cancer pharmacology resulted in 150 research papers. He was the recipient of Natural Science Award of China Education Ministry (1st prize) in the year 2009 and 2012.

 Prof. Dr. Xian-Rong Qi is a Professor of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Peking University. She received her Bachelor degree from Beijing Medical University (current Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Science, China) in 1987, and Ph.D. degree from Hoshi University (Japan, 1997). Prof. Qi has received several international and internal honors and awards, including the Nagai Foundation (1995 and 2009), Science Progress Award of Beijing Government (2001), Science Progress Award of Ministry of Education (1995，2000，2003, 2009 and 2012, respectively), Science and Technology Award of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine (2007), and so on. Professor Qi is the principal investigator for series grants, including the Grant for the Returned Overseas Scholars of Ministry of Education, Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Grant of Ministry of Science and Technology, Natural Science Foundation of Beijing, Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China, etc. She has published more than 100 research papers, and 19 textbooks.
