Abstract

Extinct in the Wild (EW) (Hilton-Taylor 2000). There are now 74 horses in large enclosures of the Askania-Nova (Ukraine) (V. Gavrilenko, pers. comm.) and 14 horses in the Bukhara Ecological Center (Uzbekistan) (Flint et al. 1990b; Pereladova et al. 1999b). A free-living population (21 animals) was created in the Chernobyl area in Ukraine (Zharkikh et al. 1999).
