Die zur Zeit vorhandenen Kommunikations- und Datennetze werden ständig weiterentwickelt und dem Stand der Technik angepasst. Von den momentan zur Verfügung stehenden Netzen sollen einige mit ihren wesentlichen Eigenschaften dargestellt werden. Weitere Einzelheiten siehe auch Kap. 55 „Datenkommunikation“.
