Abstract
In the last 15 years, there has been great progress in the study of antitumor antibiotics. Professor Umezawa in his early study on bleomycin (BLM) proposed the following principle: Even a cytotoxic agent may exhibit therapeutic action against certain types of tumors if it is distributed in the tumor in a higher concentration than in other tissues, or if it is not inactivated or activated in those tumors. This principle has been exemplified by the study of BLM.
