Abstract

In this paper we report on two experimental studies: A) the ionization of the H atom in strong external electric fields around the ionization limit by state-selective two-photon, one-photon resonant excitation through single sublevels of the n = 2 Stark manifold as intermediate step, and B) the two-photon, one-photon resonant ionization and dissociation of the H2 molecule through selected rotational-vibrational levels of the \({\text{B}}^ \bot \Sigma _{\text{u}}^ + \) electronic state as intermediate step.
