Abstract
The measure of the mediterranean bioclimate, and its relations with the physiognomy of vegetation and with agricultural potentials, is a classical theme of research — a theme which has been given special attention by scientists of the Mediterranean regions of the Old World. It is not the purpose here to make a complete bibliographic review in this respect, but mention should at least be made of the contributions of Bagnouls and Gaussen (1953), Boyko (1962), Emberger (1955a, 1955b, 1958, 1959, 1962), Gaussen (1955), Giacobbe (1958, 1959, 1962, 1964) and Sauvage (1963). The main results obtained in these and related studies have been summarized in two series of maps (UNESCO-FAO, 1963, 1970), complemented by explanatory notes and a fairly comprehensive bibliography.
