Amalgamations and take-overs are currently popular among European companies. However, organic growth remains the engine of long term corporate success. Organic growth relies on innovation. This chapter concentrates on market innovation and explains how it can provide a powerful focus for other types of innovation. Examples from the field of fmancial services illustrate how skilfull market innovation can serve to grow a business as well as to safeguard it from attacks by competitors, including those from other industries.
