Zusammenfassung
Antitussiva und Expektorantien werden bei Husten im Rahmen einer akuten oder chronischen Bronchitis angewendet. Dieses Symptom kann bei einer Reihe ätiologisch unterschiedlicher Krankheiten auftreten, die häufigste Ursache ist eine Virusinfektion in den oberen Atemwegen, wie sie bei Erkältungskrankheiten und Grippe vorkommt. Chronischer Husten ist häufig durch Rauchen bedingt. Atemnot unter Belastung, chronischer Husten und vermehrte Schleimbildung (Auswurf) sind Leitsymptome (AHA-Symptome) bei der chronisch obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD), ein Krankheitsbild mit weltweit steigender Morbidität und Mortalität und zunehmender sozioökonomischer Bedeutung.
