Definition
High-performance dry grinding (HPDG) is an abrasive cutting process with
high material removal rates
mostly high feed rate
no metal cutting fluid
force controlled depth of cut
self-sharpening grinding wheels
Theory and Applications
HPDG is frequently used for rough processing of metals like cutting off material and thus is a separate group of processes, which might even be the most frequently applied abrasive process. As explained in Kuffa (2017), the introduction of high-performance machining processes in general becomes increasingly significant among cutting processes and could be effectively introduced in many industrial applications by substituting one or more machining steps and saving costs. The significant high-performance grinding characteristics can be distinguished as high cutting depths, high feed rates, and high cutting speeds. This leads to high-specific removal rates....
