Abstract
Process management for rescue organizations and relief services is a vital asset in the context of disaster preparation and response. Major disasters require services provided by an ample range of organizations by nature. Hence, effective networking of these organizations for communication and collaboration is decisive. This networking requires proper preparation in terms of a pre-planning of activities inside and also across organizational boundaries. Thus, process modeling surfaces as natural candidate for such planning endeavors. Process models foster transparency inside and across organizations in first place. Moreover, formal representations of emergency procedures in terms of process models enable process designers to assess the quality of their processes. However, sole process management tools are far too complex for daily use by rescue forces. Hence, we developed a light-weighted variant: IT supported smart checklists. A checklist resembles a light-weight process representation with limited control flow patterns but full-fledged execution support in the future.
