Abstract

The World Wide Web has become an important knowledge and communication resource today. Most of the people use the web for variety of tasks. The current web is based on HTML which mostly restricts processing of information on web to manual keyword searches and results in much of irrelevant information retrieval. This limitation may be overcome by a new web architecture known as semantic web which is an intelligent and meaningful web proposed by Sir Tim Berner’s Lee. In his roadmap for semantic web, Ontology plays an important role in use and re-use of knowledge, shared and common understanding of a domain that can be communicated between people and across application systems which is the goal of semantic web. Ontology Development is one of the most fundamental and significant issue of concern. This paper contains a brief on ontology construction considering all the important concepts and relationships between them with possible restrictions included. The paper mainly focus on creation of class & subclass hierarchy, properties with their characteristics and restrictions, instance creation, and reasoning on LMSO.
