Definition

“Managed care” does not have a precise definition. In general, it refers to techniques intended to reduce costs and improve the quality outcomes. It also reflects systems of financing and delivering care. Most often multiple providers use a systematic approach to the delivery of healthcare. The providers and the patients they manage defines group health. Group health insurance provides members of a group at a discounted rate medical insurance. Managed care systems may be mandated by governmental agencies or be established spontaneously by groups of physicians or health insurance companies. Sometimes, the providers accept financial risk for the costs associated with medical care. However, fee-for-servicemedical treatment can also be provided according to a managed care plan.
