Abstract

The article presents some initiatives taken by the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) and a few other French organisations to raise the public awareness of mathematics. They are organised in categories, some rather standard, some more original corresponding to opportunities that have been seized. They all address a public wider than the public of scientists and have involved contributors coming from different backgrounds.
