Definition

Suevite is a term referred to a polimictic breccia made of melt and solid fragments floating in a fine pulverized clastic matrix. The clastic matrix contains lithic and mineral clasts in various stages of shock metamorphism produced during an impact. Initially used for describing impact breccia in the Ries crater, Germany, it is now a generalized term for describing similar brecciated rocks (impactites) found in impact craters.
