Der Übergang vom pegmatitischen zum hydrothermalen Stadium ist fließend. Es bestehen, physikalisch-chemisch gesehen, keine Unterschiede zwischen der Lösungsfähigkeit H2O-reicher Schmelzen, überkritischer Fluide oder unterkritischer Lösungen. Unterschiede hängen von den Zustandsbedingungen Temperatur, Druck sowie Konzentration der leichtflüchtigen Komponenten in dem betreffenden System ab.
