Abstract:
At present, the organic chemistry generally starts from a feed stock which originates from fossil fuels. Since the latter are limited, a search for bio-based feed stocks has been launched worldwide in order to make a transition to a so-called bio-economy. Most often bioethanol and biodiesel are named as potential new vectors for the chemical industry. Yet the overall eco-efficiency of the production of these feed stocks is low and controversial (DeWulf et al., 2005; Kim and Dale, 2005).
