Zusammenfassung

Die wesentlichen Aufgaben des Kolons sind die Stuhleindickung durch Wasser- und Elektrolytresorption sowie der Weitertransport und die kontrollierte Ausscheidung unverdauter Nahrungsreste. Klinisch äußern sich Störungen dieser Funktion nicht nur als Obstipation oder Diarrhö, sondern auch in Form von abdominellen Schmerzen, Blähungen und einer Vielzahl unspezifischer systemischer Symptome. Die Behandlung dieser funktionellen Störungen ist eine Domäne der Gastroenterologie, eine chirurgische Therapie ist nur bei ausgewählten Funktionsstörungen indiziert.
