Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff private school nach US-amerikanischem Verständnis ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit dem deutschen Begriff ,Privatschule‘, auch wenn dies die direkte Übersetzung nahelegen mag. Einzelne Gestaltungsaspekte von Privatschulen (z.B. die konfessionelle Bindung oder ihre staatliche Unabhängigkeit) werden oft synonym mit dem Begriff der private school verwendet: „Even private school peoplet hemselves confuse the terms private, nonpublic, independent, parochial, and denominational“ (Esty 1982: S. 4).
