Der Aufbau drahtgebundener Kommunikationsnetze ist enorm kosten- und zeitaufwendig. Der wachsende Bedarf an Telekommunikation sowie die bevorstehende Liberalisierung des Telekommunikationsmarktes in Europa hat das Interesse an funkbasierten Zugangsnetzen, sog. Wireless Local Loops (WLL), auch Radio in the Local Loop (RLL) genannt, enorm gesteigert.
