Zusammenfassung

Mit der globalen Demokratisierungswelle der zurückliegenden Jahrzehnte ist das Interesse an quantitativen Demokratie-Indizes enorm gestiegen. In auffälligem Gegensatz zur Gebrauchshäufigkeit einiger Indizes steht aber der magere Kenntnisstand über ihre Messqualität. Dies bietet Anlass, gerade die gebräuchlichsten Demokratie-Indizes einem Validitätstest zu unterziehen. Einen Versuch hierzu, der unter einer bestimmten, dabei aber besonders relevanten, Theorieperspektive steht, will ich in diesem Beitrag unternehmen.
