Abstract
The effect of phosphate fertilizer formulations (without P fertilization, with sparingly soluble CaHPO4 and with easily available NaH2PO4) on the microbial growth, the substrate utilization activity and the functional diversity of rhizosphere bacterial communities was investigated under greenhouse conditions using quartz sand. In addition, the relationship between 14C-exudate composition and the bacterial substrate utilization activity was also analysed.
A close relationship between substrate availability and the substrate utilization activity of the rhizosphere bacterial community was found. The community structure seems to adapt with different nutritional conditions in the rhizosphere, depending on their location at the root (root tip or root base) and availability of different carbon sources after a change in plant nutrition.
