Electrodeposition of Nanostructured Materials

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Surface Sciences ((SSSUR,volume 62))

Abstract

Template electrodeposition is known as an outstanding method of fabrication of nanowires. In this chapter we start with an introduction to template fabrication and properties. Anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) and track-etched (TE) membranes are the most common templates which will be discussed in this chapter. The electrodeposition of nanowire arrays can be carried out for wide variety of materials from metals and alloys to compounds and nanostructures. Electrochemical deposition mechanisms will be discussed using the electrochemical relations. Several techniques of templates electrodeposition including alternating current, direct current and pulse current and related topics will be explained. Recent progress of electrodeposited magnetic nanowires including metal and alloy, multilayered, core-shell and diameter modulated nanowires are presented.
