Abstract
This chapter presents the results of our studies on the effect of silver nanoparticles on human cells in vitro. Experiments were carried out with normal and malignant cell cultures; the former were represented by human embryo fibroblasts (HEF) and umbilical vein endothelium (UVE) cells, the latter were the HeLa and U937 cancer cell lines. In both cases we hoped to use the results for the development of medical applications of the nanoparticles. With normal cells we applied the nanoparticles synthesized with natural stabilizers (starch and β-cyclodextrin), to find out whether they can serve as components of the medicines designed for combating infectious or cardio-vascular diseases. With cancer cells we aspired to elucidate the possibilities for the creation of an effective remedy against oncological diseases.
