Early Life and Educational Background

Hewitt was born in 1957 in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada. Although starting university in music, he earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in 1982 and completed the M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. He also completed a residency in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle, USA.

Professional Career

Hewitt taught at York University in Toronto from 1987 to 1988 and worked as a staff psychologist at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital conducting research and clinical work from 1988 to 1991. During this time he was also a clinical faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
